Here is a list of some essential (some not so essential) aids to training along with other gear required for working your dog.
Rope Slip lead - Nice and simple but buy a couple as you will always lose one!
Dog Whistle - There are a number on the market but for general working gundogs you cant go far wrong with a plastic ACME 210.5,
it should be secured to a lanyard and worn around the neck. Very easy to replace and the pitch stays the same.
Sock dummy - Home made from an old pair of socks stuffed with other socks and tied at the end. Good introduction to retrieving...it smells of you and is nice and soft and light.
Tennis balls - Very obtainable and cheap, excellent size to carry in ones pockets and easy to conceal. these really get the dog to hunt using their noses and to enter cover.
Canvas Dummies - Various sizes and weights but to start off a puppy dummy and a 1lb dummy should suffice. once proficient then heavier and larger weights should be used, essential for building up the neck muscles and teaching the dog how to hold and balance larger game.
